My name is Aqma, and I don’t think my name is cool. Why did I have to be named Aqma? Wouldn’t Leo or Max sound much better? Today is my first day of school, and I’m so nervous. What if my classmates laugh when I introduce myself? Just like the kids in my neighborhood who teased me. Mom always said, “They only teased you because they liked you.” I wasn’t so sure. They said my name sounded strange and made up silly rhymes. I chased them until they ran away, laughing. Ever since then, I wished for a cooler name. “Aqma, let’s go! It’s time for school,” Mom called. I sighed and followed her. On the way, I thought hard. Maybe I could mumble my name, or pretend I forgot it when it’s my turn. When we arrived, Mom gave me a hug and said, “You’ll do great, Aqma. Your name is perfect, just like you.” As I walked into class, lost in thought, BUMP! I ran into a girl with curly hair. “Oops! Sorry!” I said quickly. “No, it’s okay! Hey, what’s your name?” she asked, smiling. “Oh no, this is it,” I thought. “I’m Aq... Aqma,” I mumbled. “Aqma? That’s so cool!” she said brightly. “I’m Rina.” “Wait, you think Aqma is cool?” I blinked, surprised. “Of course! Aqma sounds unique and strong,” Rina replied. “We should be friends!” Before I knew it, other kids gathered around. “Aqma is a great name!” one said. I couldn’t stop smiling. I never thought anyone would like my name, let alone think it was cool. By the end of the day, I felt proud. Mom was right all along. My name is Aqma, and I think it’s VERY cool!

A few days passed and John Jr and Vasi were ready to plant. They poked holes for the seeds, then placed seeds and covered dirt over seeds. After planting , they gave a nice watering to their garden. 5. John Jr and Vasi looked after and watered their garden daily. A few weeks went by and there was some buds sprouting. A few more weeks later there was fruit and vegetables starting to form. 6.. As summer was closing in, the fruit and veggies were ripe and in abundance. John Jr and Vasi went out to the garden and picked all the fruits and vegetables. There was so much that they gave Granny and a few neighbors some of their harvest. １.ある日、アフリカにある小さな村の病院で産声が上がりました。親はこの生まれた少女にジニース・イリーヤという名前を付けました。 ２.ジニース・イリーヤはすくすくと育ち、ちょっぴり恥ずかしがり屋だけど皆と話したりすることが大好きでたちまち彼女は大人気となりました。 ３.ジニース・イリーヤが高校生を卒業した時、アメリカでアフリカ人などの黒人が差別されているという問題が起きました。ジニースは家族とアメリカに旅行に行く予定でしたが、親がこういう問題の中でジニース・イリーヤにつらい思いをさせたくないと思い旅行をキャンセルしました。この旅行を楽しみにしていたジニース・イリーヤはとても悲しみました。そしてそれと同時にこの差別を無くしたいという思いがわいてきました。 ４.ジニース・イリーヤが23歳の時、自分の丸いアフロヘアーが役に立つのではないか。と思いこの丸いアフロヘアーで活躍することでこの髪型に興味を持ってもらい、差別を無くしていこうと思ったのです。早速準備を始めます。 ５.まずこの丸いアフロヘアーは水に強いということを実証します。まず公民プールに行って帽子なしで泳ぎ始めました。そして最後はプールの中に潜りました。その時は髪型はとても濡れていてびしょびしょでしたがジニースが頭を振るとアフロが元通りになりました。この様子を撮った動画をニーチューブにアップロードしました。 ６.次にアフロは風に強いんたぞという事を実証するために暴風訓練場に来ました。まず風速５mの風を受けてみました。全然びくともしません。次に風速３０mの風を受けてみました。髪はかなりなびいています。服もばたばたという音を出しながらかなり強くなびいています。しかし、ロングヘアーなどは風が強いと目にかかったり引っ張られて痛いのでアフロヘアーは風に強いという事を実証しました。 ７、この二つの動画はたちまちアメリカでも拡散されとても話題になりアフロヘアーのアメリカ人女性が増えて黒人に対する差別行為が少なくなりました。こうしてジニース・イリーヤは黒人差別を無くした英雄として語り継がれました。
