Even his teacher, Mrs. Whiskers, seemed preoccupied with lesson plans. Whiskers felt a little pang of disappointment. It wasn't the birthday celebration he'd imagined. He trudged home, his little cat heart a bit heavy. He opened the door, expecting the same quiet house. Instead… A roar of "Surprise!" erupted! His friends and family jumped out from behind the furniture, all holding a giant, tuna-flavored cake decorated with sparkling candles and tiny gummy fish. Mama Cat, Papa Cat, and Pip were beaming, and even Mrs. Whiskers peeked in from the doorway, waving a small gift bag. Whiskers's eyes widened. "You remembered!" he whispered, his voice choked with happy tears. Mama Cat chuckled. "Of course, we remembered, sleepyhead! We just wanted to make it a really special surprise. We planned this all along!" Papa Cat winked. "We even managed to keep it a secret from your little sister—that was the hardest part!" That night, surrounded by the warmth of his family and friends, Whiskers blew out his candles, making a wish for lots more secret surprises and many more happy birthdays. The teacher replies, "They were built to keep pirates away!" Page 4 The kids see an old well. Alex points and says, "This well was used by villagers for drinking water." Emma looks closely and says, "The well has a metal cover. That’s special!" Page 5 Next, they visit the Tin Hau Temple. Emma is surprised and says, "There are so many statues in the temple!" The teacher explains, "These are the gods that protect the village. We can pray here for blessings." Page 6 In the temple, the kids see two old bronze bells. Emma asks, "What are these bells for?" The teacher says, "People ring the bells to tell the gods and pray for safety." Page 7 Before the trip ends, the kids take pictures on the village path. They agree to come back next time to join the village’s traditional activities and learn more about the culture. Page 8 Back at school, Alex and Emma excitedly share their trip stories. Everyone listens with great interest, looking forward to the day they can explore Lung Yeuk Tau together!

Page 2 The two brothers arrived at the Old Wall and saw the ancient wall and narrow gate. Ming told Wah that this place once defended against pirate invasions. Page 3 As they walked into the village, they saw villagers preparing for the Spring and Autumn Festival. Wah excitedly said, “I want to see these traditional rituals!” Page 4 Ming took Wah to the Tin Hau Temple, where a statue of Tin Hau was enshrined. They saw villagers ringing bells to pray for safety, feeling the power of faith. Page 5 Next, they arrived at the ancient well. Wah curiously asked, “How old is this well?” Ming replied, “It’s an important water source for villagers, over a hundred years old!” Page 6 They visited the Song Ling Tang Temple and admired the beautiful wood carvings and statues. Ming told Wah it was built to honor their ancestors. Page 7 The brothers ran through the fields of the village, enjoying the beauty of nature. Wah said, “The air here is so fresh; I love it!” Page 8 Finally, they sat on a hillside, watching the sunset. Ming and Wah promised to return to Lung Yeuk Tau in the future to explore more secrets!

This is their first boat trip. Audrey, Daniel and Butch (jack russell) with dad. While on the boat dad pointed out to dolphins and majestic saugulls soaring overhead. Audrey spotted a family of seals while Daniel was trying to cast his fishing line. Their first stop was a secluded cove, sheltered from the wind. Dad dropped anchor, and the children squealed with delight as they jumped into the crystal-clear water for a swim. Butch, naturally, joined in, paddling furiously and chasing after floating seaweed. The water was cool and refreshing, and the underwater world teemed with colorful fish darting between vibrant coral. After their refreshing swim, it was time for lunch. Dad unpacked a picnic basket overflowing with sandwiches, fruit, and juice boxes. They ate their lunch while watching a playful crab scuttle across the rocks. Dad taught Audrey and Daniel how to navigate using a compass and chart, showing them how to identify landmarks and plan their course. Daniel even got to try steering the boat under Dad's watchful eye. Audrey, meanwhile, kept a lookout for marine life, excitedly pointing out every passing bird and fish. As the sun began to set, painting the sky in fiery hues of orange and pink, they headed back to shore. Tired but exhilarated, Audrey and Daniel snuggled up next to their dad, their faces flushed with the sun and filled with the joy of their first boating adventure. Butch, curled up at their feet, let out a contented sigh. They couldn't wait for their next trip on the water!
