The walkway is lined with foliage galore, and there you'll find tulips, Russian sage, orange poppies and more! Many years ago the cottage was sold. The woman who'd owned it had gotten too old, to care for the flowers and bushes she'd planted, and the apples that grew were too much to handle. She needed someone who would pull all of the weeds, pick the ripe apples, and tidy the yard; well, what was the problem? That didn't sound hard! There was just one other thing the old woman needed: someone who would treat the creaky, quaint cottage the way it truly deserved to be treated! For not many knew this, And still, few know today, This little old cottage is a whimsical place! Past the painted-shut windows, the cobwebs and rust, the old woman had hidden magic pixie dust!

As the day ended, Alex's heart was full. He had built a tall tower, painted a colorful picture, and even carried his own bowl! He learned that with a little effort and a lot of "I can do it" spirit, he could accomplish amazing things. On the way home, Alex held his mom's hand tightly. "Mommy," he said with a big grin, "I can do it!" His mom hugged him close. "Yes, Alex," she said, "you sure can!"

Just then, a gigantic wave crashed onto the shore. From the frothy water, a frightening figure emerged—a sea witch! She rose high above the waves, her long hair flowing like seaweed, and her eyes glimmered with mischief. The sea witch raised her sparkling triton and pointed it straight at the two friends. Before they could run, a magical pull tugged at them, and they were swept under the water! In the blink of an eye, Alex and Poppy found themselves in the sea witch’s shimmering underwater cave, surrounded by glittering treasures and colourful fish. The sea witch smiled wickedly. “You will help me find my lost crown, or you must stay here forever!” The sea witch became distracted by a family of lost turtles, trying to enter her underwater cave. Alex looked at Poppy, his heart racing. “We need to get out of here!” With a nod of agreement, they started to tip-toe behind the mountains of treasure in the sea witch’s cave. Suddenly, they spotted a golden starfish that shimmered brightly—it looked magical! “Let’s grab it!” shouted Poppy, reaching out. As they grasped the starfish together, a brilliant light filled the cave! With a bright flash, the starfish granted them one wish. The friends looked at each other, grinned, and shouted together, “Take us back home!” In an instant, they found themselves back on the sandy beach, the sun shining down once more. They cheered and hugged each other. “Where have you been?” Alex’s mum asked. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you!” Alex laughed.

One day Ms. Dennis tells them they are going to sing a song in the Winter concert, so they need to choose a song. Taylor suggests "the Little Drummer Boy" Alex does not like this idea because Alex is Jewish. Alex suggests singing "Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel". But Avery, who is not religious does not want to sing a song about Hannukah. River suggests they sing "Rudolf the red nosed reindeer". the children are excited except Mako. Mako says she does not know that song because she does not celebrate Christmas. The other children ask Mako to just sit out. Ms. Dennis tells them no, they are not going to exclude someone. Ms. Dennis tells the children find something they have in common, and asks them to bring an item that symbolizes the holidays they celebrate. When the children return, Avery brought a red, a blue, and a gold candle Avery's family celebrates Human Light, the candles represent, reason, compassion & hope. Jordan brings a Kinara his family celebrates Kwanzaa they light the candles to symbolize their community. Taylor brings a star from his Christmas tree. He explains that he celebrates Christmas and that the star is a reminder of the North Star the wise men followed to find Jesus. Mako brings a Bodi tree with lights. Mako's her family celebrates Bodi day, the day when the Buddha achieved enlightenment the lights on the tree represent the path to enlightenment. Alex brings a Menorah, Alex's family celebrates Hannukah, and the candles symbolize light's triumph over dark. River brings in a crown made of holly candles sticking out of it. her family celebrates Winter Solstice & the return of the sun. Ms. Dennis says all their celebrations revolve around light and the symbol of the Unitarian Universalist Church is a flaming chalice, each of the children have a light inside of them. River suggests they sing "This little light of mine" for the winter concert. Everyone agrees.
